Wed 50 Years
Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Renz, 2711 E. 4th St., were the guests of honor at a dinner in Black's Tearoom on Saturday evening in observance of their golden wedding anniversary.
Their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Marion H. Renz, entertained 40 relatives and close friends at the anniversary event.
Mr. Renz and the former Emma T. Loveland were married April 30, 1904, at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Loveland, near Oelwein. The couple met as students at Upper Iowa University in Fayette. Mrs. Renz taught in the schools of Fayette county for five years prior to her marriage.
After their marriage the couple resided on a farm near Dunkerton for one year and then moved to Waterloo where Mr. Renz was employed as a mail carrier. He became clerk and then clerk in charge of Postal Station A, and in 1932 was transferred to the main office as assistant postmaster, a position he held until his retirement on July 1, 1947.
Mr. and Mrs. Renz have been members of First Evangelical church since they came to Waterloo and Mr. Renz served as trustee and church treasurer for many years.
They have two grandchildren, Malcolm and Maureen, children of Mr. and Mrs. Marion Renz.

HERMAN A. RENZ
Herman A. Renz, 79, of 2703 Garden Ave., Cedar Falls, who was assistant postmaster here for 15 years, died Monday at 3 a.m. at his home of complications of arterio sclerosis.
Funeral services for Mr. Renz will be at 1:30 p. m. Wednesday at the First Evangelical United Brethren Church. The Rev. Raymond Russell, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park.
Mr. Renz was born Dec. 19, 1880, in Dunkerton, the son of Michael and Ernestina Tribon Renz. He attended Upper Iowa University at Fayette, taught school and farmed prior to April, 1906, when he entered postal service.
He married Emma Loveland, April 30, 1904, at Oelwein. They moved to Waterloo in 1906.
Mr. Renz was appointed a regular clerk in 1907. In 1908 he was in charge of Postal Station A on E. 5th St. He was also superintedent there. He was appointed assistant postmaster in 1932 and served in the position until he retired in July of 1947.
He was a postal employe for 41 years and served under seven different postmasters.
Mr. Renz was a member of the First Evangelical United Brethren Church for more than 50 years. He was church budget treasurer for more than 20 years. He was a church trustee for many years and a member of the building committee of the church.
He was also a member of the National Association of Rrtired Civil Employees.
Surviving are his wife, one son, Marion H. Renz of 2815 Ridgewood Dr., Cedar Falls; two grandchildren; one brother, Vern Renz of Dunkerton, and one sister, Mrs. Claude Lamb of Dunkerton. He was preceded by his parents, one sister and one brother.
Friends may call at the Parrott and Wood funeral home from 10 a.m. Tuesday until noon Wednesday.
