Couple Charged With Tax Evasion
BALTIMORE
A Federal Grand Jury yesterday charged Mr. and Mrs. Donald F. Tribon of St. Petersburg, cheated the income tax collector out of about $6,900 by filing returns at two different places.
The alleged violations cover the 1949, 1950, 1951 and 1952 tax years.
The indictment said the Tribons filed joint returns in Baltimore covering their income and Mrs. Tribon filed another return in St. Petersburg under the name of Lydia Lekies, a name in which she received some dividend payments.
Tax specialists said the dodge resulted in lower taxes by keeping the Tribons out of the higher rate brackets and duplicating personal exemptions.
The indictment specified the Tribons reported and paid $43,895 in taxes due but contended their real liability for the four years was $49,791. Their income ranged between $11,500 and $69,792 a year.
Efforts to locate the Tribons in St. Petersburg last night were unsuccessful. They are not listed in the telephone directory of city directory.
