The funeral service for Marjorie Bruck was held on Monday, Feb. 12, 2018 at the United Methodist Church in Graettinger. Pastor Kris Hackbart officiated.
Interment was in Lost Island Lutheran Cemetery in Ruthven. Henry-Olson Funeral Home of Estherville was in charge of arrangements.
Marjorie J. Bruck, daughter of Ella F. (Thomas) and John N. Bruck, was born January 2, 1925 in Lost Island Township and departed this life on Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2018 at the Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg at the age of 93 years.
Marjorie graduated from Ruthven High School in 1942 and then received her RN degree in 1946 from the Toledo Hospital in Ohio. She worked at the University of Iowa Hospital, Spencer Hospital, VA Hospital in Grand Island, Nebraska, and then returned to the University of Iowa Hospital to complete her nursing career. After retiring in 1990, Marjorie returned to Graettinger to be closer to her family.
Marjorie was a member of the Graettinger United Methodist Church as well as Eastern Star and White Shrine of Jerusalem for over 50 years.
Marjorie enjoyed theater productions in Iowa City and knitting. Her other passion was traveling. She traveled extensively throughout Europe with visits to Germany, Switzerland, England and France, all highlighted by two trips to Russia. Her sister, Ella Mae, joined her for a memorable vacation to England, Scotland and Ireland. She visited many National Parks while traveling through the western states and drove through Canada to Alaska three times in her 1987 VW camper.
She is survived by nieces, Linda LaPoint of Rye, CO and Shirley (Frank) Loring of Emmetsburg and their children Janelle Loring and Mike Loring. She is also survived by great-great nephew, Timothy Godinez Loring.
Preceding Marjorie in death were her parents and siblings, Frances LaPoint, Ella Mae Beck, and John Bruck.
