Herbert H. "Herb" Kisting, 90, of Stonehill Care Center, formerly of 996 Cleveland Ave., died at 9:40 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 23, 2003, at Stonehill.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Columbkille's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Tom Kisting and Rev. Philip Kruse officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Garnavillo, Iowa. Friends may call after 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church. The Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, is in charge of arrangements.
He was born on Dec. 5, 1912, in Cuba City, Wis., son of Frank and Mary (Hying) Kisting. He married Elaine Trebon on Nov. 28, 1944, in Holy Cross, Iowa.
He was a World War II Navy veteran.
He worked for Murphy Advertising until 1949. From 1949 to 1960, he owned and operated Dubuque Launderette. He graduated from Loras College in 1960 with a degree in political science. He then taught in the Dubuque Community School District at the former Franklin and Washington Schools until his retirement in 1976.
Surviving are his wife, Elaine; two sons, Mark (Kathleen) Kisting, of Dubuque, and Thomas Kisting, of Pine River, Minn.; two granddaughters, Lisa Kisting, of Evanston, Ill., and Laura Kisting, of Roseville, Minn.; and a sister, Evelyn, of California.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Ellen, in 1952.
Memorials may be given to Stonehill Care Center and St. Columbkille's Catholic Church.
