INDEPENDENCE
Mrs. Jennie Knoll received letters from her two sons, Pfc. Alvan Dale Hyde and Sgt. Thomas E. Hyde, who had met in Sicily. Sept. 5. They had not seen each other since July 27, 1941.
Tom wrote: "Today is Sunday, and I wasn't doing anything, and who did I see but Dale. He drove up in his hashwagon. I wrote to him Sept. 1, and he got the letter the following day, so he knew we weren't far apart. We're sitting in his wagon batting the breeze and writing this letter. I don't think he's changed much, and vice versa. We've been in the army two years and eight months today. The last time we saw each other was July 27, 1941-long time no see." The letter was co-signed by Dale.
