J. Michael Schemmer age 68 of 131 Hawthorne Ct. in Chilton died on Monday March 7, 2005 while on vacation with his wife in Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico. He was born February 11, 1937 in Rock Valley, IA son of the late Clarence & Betty (Barrosow) Schemmer. Mike married Teresa DiMattina on June 11, 1960 at St. Robert's Catholic Church in Shorewood. Michael graduated with a civil engineering degree from Marquette University where he was also a member of the Triangle Fraternity. He moved to the Chilton area in 1968 and began working for Hedrich Construction. He then worked for Lunda Construction Co. in Hilbert for over 20 years. In 2003 He began serving as the building inspector for the City of Chilton, the Town of Schleswig, and the Village of Hilbert. Mike was an active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Chilton where he was a lector, a past CCD Teacher and a past church council member. He was also a member of the Chilton Lions Club, was a huge Packer fan, enjoyed snow shoeing, traveling, genealogy and hunting pheasant, deer and turkey. Mike was a strong family man who would do anything for his daughters, and was extremely proud of his grandchildren. He was also well known for his friendly manner and for going out of his way to help people in any situation. Survivors include his wife of 45 years: Teresa; 4 daughters: Michelle (Todd) Schliiter of Kenmore, WA, Christine (Jon) Maurer of Elkhart Lake, Mary (Dan) Hanlon of Pewaukee, Lynn (Eric) Valleau of Portland, OR; 9 grandchildren: Henry & Tristan Schliiter, Reid, Tony, Erik, & Evan Maurer, Sarah & Alex Hanlon and Ian Valleau; and 2 brothers: James (Twila) Schemmer of WA and William (Rose) Schemmer of FL. Funeral services will be at 11:30 AM on Tuesday March 15, 2005 at St. Mary's Catholic Church (54 E. Main St.) in Chilton with the Rev. Gary New S.D.S officiating. Burial will follow in the Parish Cemetery. Friends may call at the Wieting Family Funeral Home (411 W. Main St.) in Chilton from 3 - 8:00 PM on Monday March 14 and on Tuesday at the church from 10 - 11:00 AM. A memorial fund has been established in the name of J. Michael Schemmer.
