Matthew Matt Reilly, age 75, of 333 6th St. NE, Huron, died Tuesday morning, June 1, 2004, at the Huron Nursing Home. His funeral mass will be at 10:30 AM Friday, June 4th, at the Church of the Resurrection with Father Jim Zimmer officiating. Burial will be at St. Martin Cemetery. Friends may call this Thursday afternoon and evening at the Welter Funeral Home or prior to the mass at the church Friday morning. There will be a Scripture Service at 8:00 PM this Thursday evening at the funeral home.
Matthew Gerald Reilly was born on October 28, 1928, to Bernard and Marie (OMeara) Reilly at Huron, SD. He attended schools in Huron and graduated from Huron High School in 1947.
On June 3, 1950, Matt married Veronica Fasbender at White, SD; they were later divorced. Throughout his lifetime he lived in central South Dakota where he farmed in the Cavour and Wessington areas for a number of years. Matt worked for Armour & Company for 10 years, then for Metz Bakery as a baker in Huron and Watertown, retiring in 1990. After his retirement Matt lived in Wessington for 10 years, returning to Huron this past year.
He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Parish, and a past member of the Knights of Columbus. His many interests including fishing, hunting, attending auctions, and fixing things.
He is survived by 10 sons, John (Pam) Reilly of Appleton, WI, Joe (Carrie) Reilly of Huron, Paul (Vada) Reilly of Colorado Springs, CO, Vern Reilly of Rudd, IA, Mark (Patti) Reilly of San Diego, CA, Earl (Cindy) Reilly of Dalton, NE, Dennis Reilly of San Diego, CA, Vincent (Patricia) Reilly of Sioux Falls, SD, David (Colette) Reilly of Parker, CO, and Dan (Jacqueline) Reilly of Northglenn, CO; 2 daughters, Mary Cronin of Huron, and Teresa Reilly of Yankton; 24 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Sister Mary Lonan Reilly of Rochester, MN, and Sister Marcella Reilly of Rochester, MN; 1 sister-in-law, Betty Reilly of Huron; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 1 son, Leo in childbirth; 2 brothers, James Reilly and Earl Reilly; 1 sister, Rose Norquist; 1 brother-in-law, S.A. Norquist; and 1 son-in-law, Dennis Cronin.
