INDEPENDENCE
Ida M. Hansen, 86 years old, of Independence, died on Monday, Feb. 10, at the Buchanan County Health Center in Independence. She was born on June 4, 1927, in Buchanan County, the daughter of George and Nettie Dorothy (Trebon) Sommerfelt. She attended school in Independence. On Nov. 16, 1943, she and Blaine Lester Hansen were married in Independence. He preceded her in death in 1999. Mrs. Hansen was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Independence. She was kept busy raising and caring for her family. She is remembered as an accomplished cook and baker with each family member having an individual favorite. She also enjoyed sewing, cross stitching, and working puzzle books.
Mrs. Hansen is survived by two sons, Steven (Jean) Hansen of Roland, and Brian (Janet) Hansen of Cedar Rapids, two daughters, Carolyn (Robert) Oberhauser of Oskaloosa, and Pamela (John) Calderwood of Aplington, 10 grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one son in infancy (Terry), two brothers, and three sisters.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 14, at the White Funeral Home in Independence, with Pastor Kurt Bockoven officiating. Burial will be in Wilson Cemetery in Independence.
