Blaine L. Hansen, 80, of Independence, IA died on Saturday, Dec. 11, 1999 at East Towne Care Center in Independence following a short illness. He was born on Sept. 23, 1919 in Aurora, IA, the son of Nels Paul and Myra Leane Perkins Hansen. He attended country schools in the area. On Nov. 16, 1943 he and the former Ida Mae Sommerfelt were married in Independence, IA. Mr. Hansen served in the United States Army during World War II. Mr. Hansen worked. as a parts delivery person at John Deere and Co. in Waterloo, IA before retiring in 1977. He was a member of the U.A.W. Local #838.
Mr. Hansen is survived by his wife, Ida; two sons, Steven Hansen of Roland, IA, and Brian Hansen of Independence, IA; two daughters, Carolyn (Mrs. Robert) Oberhauser of Oskaloosa, IA, and Pamela (Mrs. John) Calderwood, of Reinbeck, IA; and ten grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother, Thomas L. Hansen of Oelwein, IA, and one sister, Dorothy Kemp, of Cedar Falls, IA.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Terry, in infancy; four brothers; and four sisters.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 14, 1999 at the White Funeral Home in Independence, IA with Pastor John Cupryna officiating. Casket bearers were Chris Hansen, Burdette Anderson, Richard Westemeier, John Calderwood, Robert Oberhauser, and Robert Cook. Burial was in Wilson Cemetery in Independence.
White Funeral Home of Independence was in charge of arrangements.
