A visitation will begin at 2:00 pm Wednesday, August 29, 2012 at Miller West Funeral Chapel, 6200 W. 41st St., with the family present from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm and a Liturgical Wake Service at 7:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 am Thursday, August 30, 2012 at St. Michael Catholic Church with burial to follow in Woodlawn Cemetery.
Arnold Bernard "Arnie" Richter was born April 13, 1947 in Sibley, Iowa, to Alvin and Bernadette Richter. He grew up in Emery, South Dakota where he received his education, graduating from Emery High School in 1966. After high school, Arnie enlisted in the Air Force as an Automotive Repairman, from 1966-1970. He was stationed at Malstrom Air Force Base, Montana, and Osan Air Base, Republic of Korea. After four years of service, Arnie received an honorable discharge and his decorations and medals include the National Defense Service Medal, Air Force Good Conduct Medal, Air Force Expeditionary Medal, and Air Force Longevity Service Award.
After separating from the Air Force, Arnie attended the University of Great Falls (1970-72) and Eastern Montana University (1972-76) in Great Falls, Montana. Arnie was employed as a truck driver for various companies in Montana, South Dakota, and Minnesota, for the past 42 years, and was currently employed at Woodhouse Dealership in Blair, Nebraska.
Arnie enjoyed spending time with family, traveling, sports and camping. While in high school, he was an all-around athlete playing basketball, football, track and field, and baseball. Arnie also enjoyed NASCAR, the Minnesota Vikings and Nebraska football. During his off-time, Arnie enjoyed camping, billiards, playing the card game euchre with family and spending time with his grandchildren.
Arnie is survived by his three children, Steven (Lori) Richter of Sioux Falls, SD; Jennifer (Scott D'Amico) Bingen of Las Vegas, NV, and Jaime Richter of Sioux Falls, SD; six grandchildren, Andrew, Aaron, and April Richter, Jaden Bingen, Russell and Jayna Prince; five brothers, Harold (Laraine Crane) Richter of Omaha, NE, Earl (Georganne) Richter of Phoenix, AZ, Dale (Carol) Richter of Sacramento, CA, Ralph (Twyla) Richter of Las Vegas, NV, Roger (Carrie Hofer) Richter of Sioux Falls, SD; one sister, Mary Ellen Richter of Omaha, NE; a special friend, LaVonne McManigal of Omaha, NE; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents: Alvin and Bernadette Richter, three brothers: Vincent Richter, Marvin Richter and Glen Richter, and sister-in-law, Kim Richter.
