Gertrude Mary Kotz, 88, of Belgrade died Monday at Koronis Manor in Paynesville.
The service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Belgrade. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Johnson Funeral Home in Belgrade, with a Christian Mothers Rosary at 5:30 p.m., parish prayers at 7:30 p.m., and for one hour prior to the service at the church.
She was born July 15, 1920, in Presho, S.D., to Patrick and Mathilda (Jacoby) Sweeney. She grew up in Presho. She attended Presho Elementary and High School.
She married Joseph Kotz on Sept. 2, 1937, in Sweeney, S.D. They moved to rural Belgrade where they ran a dairy farm until 1984 when they move into town. Joseph died in 1998. In 2004, she moved to Washburne Court in Paynesville before recently moving to Koronis Manor.
She was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Belgrade where she was a member of Christian Mothers. She also volunteered at the food shelf in Belgrade.
She is survived by her children: Ronald (and fiancée Janet) of Grantsburg, Wis., Virginia (and Ken) Terhaar of Brooten, Vernon "Butch" (and Mary) of Belgrade, Monica (and Mike) Stanger of Watkins, Maxine (and Donald) Dahl of Blaine, Rosella (and John) Nelson of St. Augusta, Gene (and Becky) of Blaine, Wayne (and Marcia) of Mililani, Hawaii, Janet Kotz (and special friend Mark Trisko) of St. Paul, Margaret (and Don) Aukrust of Brooklyn Center, Mark (and Mickey) of Belgrade, Kathy (and Bob) Antil of Fridley, Lori (and Brian) Lieser of Paynesville and Brian of Blaine; 34 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and a sister: Cecelia Walker of Gregory, S.D.
She was preceded in death by her husband; daughter: Julie; daughter-in-law: Sylvia; a brother; and five sisters.
