Mabel Horsley, 77, of Fort Pierre died Sunday, March 28, 1999, at her home.
Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday in St. John's Catholic Church, Fort Pierre. The Rev. Michael Hight will officiate.
Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Pierre with Hofmeister Funeral Chapel in Pierre in charge of arrangements.
A rosary service will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at the funeral chapel.
Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral chapel.
Mabel Elizabeth Knudtson was born Aug. 5, 1921, to John and Inga (Bingen) Knudtson in Vivian. She grew up and attended school in Vivian. She graduated from Vivian High School in 1939.
On Oct. 31, 1939, she married Aloysious Kotz in Vivian. She lived in Vivian, Presho, Davenport, Iowa, and Kennebec. She worked as a waitress and was a homemaker.
She married Orlo Vern Horsley in Pierre on Dec. 24, 1966. They became co-owners of the Pierre Airport Cafe from 1969 to 1974. She also sold Avon, Tupperware and Watkins.
She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary, AARP, St. Mary's Hospital Donor Club and was a life member of the Women of the Moose. She was also a 4-H leader in the 1950s.
She like traveling, sewing, crocheting, gardening and attending meals at Southeast Methodist Church in Pierre.
Survivors include five sons, Austin (Bonnie) Kotz of Dakota City, Neb., Gerald Kotz of Davenport, Paul (Alyce Faye) Kotz and Steven (Barbara) Kotz, both of Rockford, Ill., and James (Eileen) Kotz of Presho; one daughter, Mary (Kotz) Haiston of Aberdeen; one stepson, Jerry (Peggy) Horsley of Fort Pierre; one brother, Irvin Knudtson of Spokane, Wash.; two sisters, Lillian Severyn and Edith Gannon, both of Vivian; 21 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, one son, one granddaughter, one grandson, one stepgrandson, 11 brothers and sisters, one half brother and one half sister.
