Alfred Wiemer, one of the true pioneers of western Racine county, died Wednesday afternoon at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Elmer Brook, on Randolph street. Mr. Wiemer suffered a stroke nearly five years ago and has since been confined to his bed, but in spite of his infirmity remained cheerful. Some three weeks ago he suffered another stroke and has gradually declined since.
Mr. Wiemer was 82 years of age, being born at the English settlement June 18, 1848. His early life was spent on the farm and after his marriage, he resided on the farm there and at Waterford until some seven years ago when he came to Burlington to make his home with Mr. and Mrs. Brook. He was twice married. His first wife was Anna Richter who passed away after eight years of married life. On February 11, 1879, he was united in marriage with Gertrude Halbach at Waterford who for over fifty-two years has been a faithful helpmate and companion. She, with the following children survive: John, Rock Valley, Iowa; Joseph, Whitewater, Edward and George, Bellingham, Wash.; Mrs. Frank McGovern, Minneapolis; Bernard and Mrs. Nettie Dostin, St. Charles, Ill.; Ray, Mrs. Elmer Brook and Mrs. Henry DeGrave, Burlington. One sister, Mrs. Henry Naber, of Waterford also survives.
Funeral services will be held at St. Mary's Catholic church at 9:30 Monday morning, Rev. J. A. Van Treeck officiating, and his remains laid to rest in St. Mary's cemetery.
