Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at 9:00 o'clock at the St. Mary's Catholic Church for John Wiemer. Interment was made in St. Mary's Cemetery with Rev. Fr. David McGoey officiating at both services.
Mr. Wiemer had been found dead in his bed Sunday morning by his landlady, Mrs. Maybell McElroy who noted that he had not gone out to mass.
John Wiemer was born at Waterford, Wisconsin in November of 1872 where he grew to manhood. He came to Rock Valley at the age of 28 years and farmed in this vicinity until 1923 when he moved to Rock Valley and soon afterward took the position of Weighmaster which he held until the city scale was discontinued. He continued to sound the siren at 7 a.m., 12p.m., 1 p.m. and 6 p.m.
He has several half sisters and half brothers living in Wisconsin and in the West Coast states. Mrs. A. F. Schemmer and William B. Richter, local residents are two of his first cousins.
Pall bearers who carried him to his last resting place were Clarence Schemmer, F.T. McGill, Henry Kaskie, Frank O'Meara, John Frembgen, and Dick Van Eldik.
The Vander Ploeg Funeral Service was in charge of the funeral directions.
