Mark R. Rees, 56, died Friday April 15, 2011, at his home after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born Nov. 5, 1954, at Hot Springs, S.D., to Bernice and James Rees. He lived in Brookings, S.D., from 1960 to 1970 when his family moved to Pullman. He graduated from Pullman High School in 1973.
Mark enjoyed making Pullman his home and worked in construction for many years. He loved the country way of life and often rode his horses in the backcountry for days at a time. He treasured his many friendships in Pullman.
He was stricken with cancer and paralysis in early 2009. Mark fought hard and regained strength in his legs. Cancer returned in early 2011.
Survivors include two brothers, Curt Rees of Chile and Greg Metcalf of Atlanta, Ga.; and two sisters, Peg Rees-Putnam of Bellingham, Wash., and Lynelle Allen of Redmond, Wash.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Bernice Metcalf, his stepfather, Everett Metcalf, and his brother, Steve Rees. His father, James Rees, died in 1960. No public memorial is planned. Online condolences can be left at www.kimballfh.com.
