Irvin J. Gonya, 78, of 104 N. Wood St., died this morning at Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Gonya was born June 23, 1913, in Oak Harbor, to Augusta and Nellie Gonya. He married Lucille Wammes; she died in 1975. He then married Mary Uhlenhake in 1977. She survives.
He was a retired farmer and a rural Postal carrier. He was a member of St. Joseph's Church. Mr. Gonya started the St. Joseph High School band and he also started the Fremont October Fest.
Surviving are sons, Eugene of Detroit, Gary of Toledo, David of Columbus and Daniel of Fremont; a daughter, Mary Gabaural of Pelize, Central America; five grandchildren and two step grandchildren; brothers, Russell and Robert, both of Fremont: sisters, Helen Rusch of Fremont and Margaret Spieldenner of Fort Charlotte, Fla.
A sister, Theresa Gonya, and a brother, John Gonya, are deceased.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph's Church, with burial at St. Joseph's Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Keller-Ochs-Koch Funeral Home, with a wake service 8:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the Northwest Ohio Lions Eye Bank.
