Walter Kerns, 57, died Thursday night at 6:21 at his home in Fairbank following a lingering illness. He suffered a cerebral hemorrhage Tuesday.
Mr. Kerns was born Aug. 19, 1890, in Bremer county, son of John and Bridget McCue Kerns. He lived his entire life here, farming in his youth and working for 12 years at the Fairbank stockyards. He was married to Lona Chase, Feb. 10, 1915 and they lived on a farm, south of town, for a while.
He is survived by his wife; eight children, Mrs. Glen Yeager, John Kerns and Mrs. Clem Rourke, Dunkerton, Mrs. Rayburn Weber, Waterloo, Robert Kerns, Fairbank, and Dorothy, Duane and Harold at home; one brother, Ed Kerns, Fairbank; seven granddaughters and one grandson.
The body is at the Hazelton Funeral home and will be brought to Fairbank Saturday afternoon.
Funeral services will be held at 9:30 Monday morning at the Cationic church in Fairbank.
