Robert William Kerns, 80, died Thursday, Feb. 20, 2003, in Allen Memorial Hospital, Waterloo, from progressive supronuclear palsy. Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday, Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Fairbank, by the Rev. Ken Stecher. Burial: Immaculate Conception Cemetery. Friends may call from 2:30 to 8 p.m. today at Woods Funeral Home, with a rosary at 3 p.m. and a Scripture service at 7 p.m.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth; three sons, James (Judy) of Waterloo, Joseph (Mary Kay) of Johnston and Jerald (Sue) of Waterloo; two daughters, Sharon (Jim) Menke of Cedar Rapids and Janet (Terry) McGrane of Fairbank; 13 grandchilden; 11 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Wilma Yeager of Fairbank, Catherine Weber of Cedar Falls, Daphine Rourke of Fairbank and Dorothy Ford of Oelwein; and a brother, Duane of Westgate.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Harold and John.
Robert was born Oct. 27, 1922, in Fairbank, to Walter and Lona Chase Kerns. He married Ruth Michels on July 3, 1945. He retired from Rath Packing Co., Waterloo, after 38 years. He was a lifetime Fairbank resident.
