Joan Chamberlain, 63, of white River, S.D., died Friday, April 2, 1999, at Sioux Valley Hospital, Sioux Falls, S.D.
Services were April 6 at at White River Community Events Center with interment in the Winner Cemetery, Winner, S.D.
Joan Heffernan was born Feb. 18, 1936, at Sioux Falls. She grew up on a farm in the Inwood area and graduated from Inwood High School in 1954. She received a bachelor's degree in nursing from Briar Cliff College in 1958.
On June 3, 1959, she married Marvin Chamberlain in Rock Valley. They lived in Sioux City four years before moving to White River. She worked as a school nurse for the White River School District many years. At the time of her death, she worked for the Todd County School District.
Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Amy Koehn or Wisner, Neb., Sue Klein of Overland Park, Kan., and Ellen Pengra of Brookings, S.D.; five Sons, Tom of Sugar Grove, Ill., Pat of Aberdeen, S.D., Paul of Minneapolis, Minn., Jerry of St. Paul, Minn., and Mark of Sioux Falls; 16 grandchildren: one brother, Jack, and three sisters, Sally Baker, Jean Heffernan and Pat Slamkowski.
