Shirliann Kaskie, age 91, passed away on January 28, 2018, after a brief illness. Shirli was born on May 29, 1926, in Dubuque, Iowa to Melvin and Loretta Fortmann.
Shirli graduated from Iowa State University with a B.S. degree in Journalism. At the pinnacle of her professional writing career, she authored, "A Woman's Golf Game", considered to be the first book focused on women's golf instruction. Now in its' 13th printing, it is the most successful publication dedicated to woman's golf. As an active resident of Naples since 1986, Shirli was involved in numerous charities and enjoyed playing bridge with her friends. She also was a devoted wife and loving mother.
Shirli was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Joseph Kaskie, son Stephen Kaskie, granddaughter Grace Kaskie, great-grandson Nathaniel Miklozek, and sister Bette Schmid. Survivors include her children Dave (Mary) Kaskie, Michael Kaskie, Lisa (Nick) Capper, Jon (Lori) Kaskie, and Brian (Darlene) Kaskie.
Mimi especially loved being with and talking with her 16 grandchildren, and the numerous nieces and nephews in the Schmid family.
A funeral mass will be held at Saint William Catholic Church, Naples, on Tuesday, Feb. 6th at 10:00 am; followed by a family memorial service at Naples Memorial Gardens.
