Phyllis Marie Matteson, 75, entered into her eternal rest on Dec. 2, 2013, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids following a lengthy illness.
Phyllis Marie Matteson was born December 5, 1937 at Winthrop,IA, the daughter of Raymond and Margaret Fernald Barbian. Phyllis grew up at Winthrop where she attended the Winthrop Schools. On December 15, 1964 she married Dixon "Itch" Matteson in Galena, Ill.
Phyllis held several jobs, including co-proprietor of the 10th Inning Tavern in Winthrop and was a Kitchen assistant at East Buchanan Schools from 1979 until retiring in 2003. Her husband, Itch, died on Nov. 1, 1997.
Besides her husband, Itch, she was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Lorraine O'Brien.
Survivors include three sons, Chris Anderson of Iowa City; Gary Matteson of Winthrop; and Raymond Matteson of Cedar Rapids; one daughter Trendy Matteson of Baxter, Tenn; three brothers: Russell Barbian of Marion; Richard Barbian of Mount Vernon, IL; and Jerry (Colleen) Barbian of Las Vegas, NV; many nieces and nephews.
As per her wishes Phyllis has been cremated and no formal services are planned. The family invites friends to come for a visitation from 4 PM until 8 PM on Friday, Dec. 6, 2013 at the Fawcett Funeral Home in Winthrop. At a later date she will be buried with her husband at Fremont Township Cemetery north of Winthrop.
