Russell James Barbian, 75, of Marion, Iowa, formerly of Winthrop, passed away Friday, July 13, 2018, at Mayvil Assisted Living, Cedar Rapids. Per his wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Russell's life will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 21, in the activities room at Mayvil Assisted Living, located at 136 36th Ave. SW, Cedar Rapids. A private committal service will take place at a later date.
Russell was born April 23, 1943, in Winthrop, Iowa, the son of Raymond and Margaret (Fernald) Barbian. On Sept. 28, 1968, he married Lynda K. Rasmussen in New Hartford, Iowa. They divorced in 1996.
Russell worked at Marion Cashway and later at Gilcrest-Jewett Lumber Yard as a foreman, retiring after 44 years. He loved football and was an avid Chicago Bears and NASCAR fan. Russell enjoyed time spent with Elwood Berg doing woodworking and making furniture. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Russell is survived and lovingly remembered by his children, Jeanne (David Primrose) Barbian and Mike (Amanda) Benedict-Barbian, both of Cedar Rapids; their mother, Lynda Barbian of Marion; brother, Richard Barbian of Mount Vernon, Ill.; sister-in-law, Lynne (Mel) Anderson of Waverly; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Lorraine O'Brien and Phyllis Matteson; and brother, Jerry Barbian.
