John J. Althoff, 88, of Kenosha, died Thursday (Aug. 16, 2001) at Kenosha Hospital and Medical Center.
Born on July 7, 1913, in New Munster, he was the son of the late Joseph and Catherine (Scherrer) Althoff.
A lifelong resident of Kenosha, he attended local schools and the Kenosha College of Commerce.
On Aug. 18, 1934, he married Lucille Beaumier at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church.
At the time of his retirement, he was president, CEO and chairman of the board of Wisconsin Fuel & Heating. He was associated with the company from 1940 to 1974.
He was a member of St. Therese Catholic Church, a former member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church where he was an usher for more than 60 years and was a member of the Ushers Society. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 973, a former director for North Shore Commuter Railroad Co., and a member of the Kenosha Chamber of Commerce. He was listed in the 10th edition of "Who's Who in the Midwest"; he was a trustee for the Association Insurance Co. of Wisconsin and was a former secretary of the Kenosha Fuel Dealers Association.
Survivors include his wife of Kenosha; two daughters, Shirley (Kevin) Carney of Delavan and Carol (Douglas) Kester of Kenosha; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Edward and Leon, and a sister, Mary Seidermann.
Piasecki-Althaus Funeral Home, 3720 39th Ave., is in charge of arrangements.
ALTHOFF—Funeral services for Mr. John J. Althoff will be held on Monday, August 20th. Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. at St. Therese Catholic Church. Entombment will follow in all Saints Mausoleum. Visitation for Mr. Althoff will be held on Monday at the Church from 10:00 A.M. until the time of Mass. In lieu of flowers, Memorial remembrances to St. Therese Catholic Church would be appreciated by the family. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Piasecki-Althaus Funeral Home 3720-39th Avenue.
