Phyllis R. Richter, 74, of Burlington/Wheatland passed away June 1, 2012 at Geneva Lake Manor surrounded by her loving family.
Phyllis was born Aug. 25, 1937, to Herbert and Ida (nee Steffen) Schwanz in Slades Corners, Wis. She spent her life in the Wheatland area graduating from Central High School. Phyllis worked at Wisconsin Southern Gas Co. and then waitressed at White Oaks and Fairview restaurants. Phyllis became the cook at Fairview restaurant and then went on to work at the Wheatland Center School until retiring in June of 1999. On June 9, 1956 Phyllis was united in marriage to Dale Richter at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Burlington. Following their marriage Dale and Phyllis resided on the family farm in Wheatland, raising their family. In 1963 they moved off the family farm. Phyllis was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in New Munster. She enjoyed good times with family, friends, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, a trip to the casinos and a good card game, especially her nightly card game with her husband, Dale.
Phyllis is survived by her loving husband Dale, her children, Regina (Charles) Poepping, Julie (Kenneth) Poepping and Randy (Janice) Richter, grandchildren; Sara Poepping, Joshua (Sally) Poepping, Jodi (Scott) Holler, Michael (Summer) Poepping, David (Kate) Poepping, Steven Poepping, Aaron Richter and Alex Richter, great-grandchildren; Whitney and Maggie Holler and Conor Poepping, Kamryn, Owen and Macyn Poepping and another great-grandchild on the way. She is further survived by her Sisters-in law; Loraine Schwanz, Marge Kerr, Doris (Keith) Esmond, Joanne Ross, Patricia (Leroy) Vos, Rose (David) Pfanzelter and brother-in-law Robert Aldrich and a lifelong friend Patricia Yuknis and many nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous friends. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, her infant daughter Jacqueline Mary, brother Eldred Schwanz, sister Gwen Ruppert, father and mother in-law Bert (Lucille) Richter, sister-in-law Darlene Aldrich and brother-in-law Joe Kerr.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Wednesday June 6, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church with Rev. Michael Dineen and Deacon Stan Lowe officiating. Relatives and friends may visit with the family on Tuesday June 5, 2012 from 4 p.m. until 7:30 p.m., with a prayer vigil at 7:30 p.m., at the Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home. Burial will follow service in St.Alphonsus Cemetery.
