Gerald A. 'Jerry' Richter, 77, died Friday, June, 19, 2009 at his home.
He was born March 12, 1932 in East Troy to Leon and Eleanor (nee: Ketterhagen) Richter. On May 12, 1956, he was united in marriage to Janice Lois at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in New Munster. Following marriage, they made their home in Burlington. He grew up in Burlington, attended St. Mary's High School and then Marquette University. He served in the United States Army as a Sergeant during the Korean Conflict. Jerry was the owner/operator of Wilson-Richter Oil Company. He was a member of, and devoted to, St. Charles Parish and School where he held numerous volunteer positions including Parish Trustee, Fall Festival Chairman, School Board Member and President, Cub Scout and Boy Scout Leader and Holy Dusters. He was a member of the Burlington Volunteer Fire Department, Kiwanis Club and Knights of Columbus. He liked playing cards, golfing, fishing and woodworking. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, always making them laugh. He had many dear friends and lived life to the fullest. Life was always brighter when Jerry was around.
Survivors include his best friend and wife of 53 years, Jan Richter of Burlington; children, Neal (Ann) Richter of Appleton, Jeffrey (Julie) Richter of Waukesha, Brian (Wendy) Richter of Gurnee, Ill., Nancy (John) Schmidt of Oak Creek, Laurie (Chris) Miller of Burlington; 16 grandchildren, Kelly, Katie, and Christopher Richter, Craig, Kelsey, and Carly Richter, Becky, Melissa, Hailey, and Erin Richter, Nathan, and Libby Schmidt, Neal, Greg, Jack, and Molly Miller; great- granddaughter, Marisa Ortega; sister-in-law, Barb (Mike) Reesman; brothers- in-law, Dennis (Judy) Lois, and Gerald (Gail) Lois. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Carol Richter.
A mass of christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 23, 2009, at 11 a.m. at St. Charles Catholic Church in Burlington with Rev. Tom DeVries officiating. Burial will follow at St. Charles Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet with the family on Monday, June 22, from 4 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been suggested to St. Charles School or St. Charles Parish. The family wishes to thank Dr. Krismer and Dr. Haider and their staffs, the VNA of Lake Geneva and also relatives and friends for their love and support.
