Peter M. Schlax, 70, for many years plant superintendent of Specialty Brass company and a resident here since 1906, died suddenly at his home, 6410 Fifth avenue, Saturday afternoon following a heart attack. Schlax had been in the best of health and his sudden death came as a distinct shock to his many relatives and friends.
He was born at Wilmot Aug. 27, 1877, a son of the late Michael and Caroline Toelle Schlax. He spent his early life in that community and was educated in the schools there. In 1906 he came to Kenosha and was employed by the Simmons company for a short time.
Serves With Board
For the past 31 years he has been associated with the Specialty Brass organization and served with the board of directors of that company.
Schlax was a prominent member of St. James church and was also a member of the Holy Name society of that parish. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Kenosha Council No. 973, and of the Fourth Degree Assembly of the K. of C.
On May 28, 1901, he was united in marriage with Miss Catherine Richter at St. Alphonsus church at New Munster.
Surviving are his wife, and two sons and one daughter; Leslie and Francis and Mrs. Kenneth Peterson, all of Kenosha. Five grandchildren also survive.
SCHLAX - Funeral services for the late Peter M. Schlax. 6410 Fifth Avenue, will be held the Crossin Funeral Home Wednesday morning, January 14th at 9:30 o'clock. Mass will be celebrated at St. James church at 10 0'clock. Interment following in St. James cemetery. Knights of Columbus Rosary service Monday at 8 p.m. Holy Name Society Rosary service Tuesday at 8 p.m. Friends may call after 6 p.m. Monday.
