James A. Kirby, 78, De Pere, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday December 14, 2014. Jim was born September 7, 1936 to the late Lynton and Vivian (Richter) Kirby. On April 17, 1981 Jim was united in marriage to Alicia Meetz. He graduated from Brillion High School as the class valedictorian, and then attended UW Oshkosh prior to joining the USAF for 22 years, and serving as an Air Traffic Controller while in the service. After retiring, Jim moved back to his hometown of Brillion, and worked at Brillion Iron Works for 20 years before retiring in 1998. He enjoyed caring for his grandchildren, and loved a houseful of family to be with. Jim also enjoyed coaching his kids, and later on watching his grandchildren in their activities.
He is survived by his wife Alicia, children; Teresa (Mark) Behm, Chris (Beth) Kirby, Bob (Caitlin) Kirby, Kelly (Rebecca) Vogel, Heather (Mike) Geiger, as well as 10 grandchildren, Ryan, Krysta, Natasha, Mason, Zack, Landon, Nico, Brennan, Julian, Madison, and his great granddaughter Marley. Jim was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.
Friends may call at the RYAN FUNERAL HOME 305 N. Tenth Street in De Pere after 3pm Wednesday December 17, 2014. A funeral service for Jim will be held at 5pm with Fr. Judah Pigon MF officiating. Full military honors will follow. Please go to www.ryanfh.com to send online condolences to the family.
