MRS. ELIZABETH PLATE PASSES AWAY
Was 80 Years Old and Lived In Racine County since 1845...Another of the pioneers of southern Wisconsin has passed away in the person of Mrs. Elizabeth Plate, who died at the home her daughter Mrs. Henry J. Vos on McHenry street at 4 o'clock last Saturday afternoon after a long illness. her funeral was held from St.Mary's Catholic Church at 9 O'clock Wednesday morning, Rev. J. A. Van Treeck conducting the services.
The deceased whose maiden name was Elizabeth Schemmer, was born in Germany, July 25, 1838, and came to this country and Racine when 7 years old and few years later to Burlington. So about 73 years of her four score and ten were passed in our midst, and she was most highly esteemed by all who knew her. In 1857 she was united in marriage, with Casper Plate, who died in 1866, leaving his widow with four small children. She is now survived by the daughter, Mrs. Vos, and two sons Louis Plate, of Milwukee, and Henry Plate, of San Diego,Cal; sixteen grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and the following four brothers: Frederick Schemmer, St.Charles,S.D.; Frank Schemmer, Burlington: Ben Schemmer, Chilton: Henry Schemmer, Los Angeles, Cal.; sisters Doforosa and Raineria, Milwaukee.
