CHIPPEWA FALLS
Francis H. Seyforth, 81, 552 Maitland Dr., Chippewa Falls, died Saturday, Feb. 22, 1997, in Mesa, Ariz., where they have spent their winters since 1988.
He was born March 21, 1915, in Eleva, to Lyman and Grace (Rockwell) Seyforth. He lived in Eleva until moving with his parents to Chippewa Falls at the age of 12. He graduated from Chippewa Falls High School in 1933. He worked at the Red Owl Grocery Store during high school, and following graduation worked on his father's meat route.
He entered the grocery business in 1935, operating an independent meat department in the A&P Store on Spring Street. He then became partners with Jake Gosbin in Seyforth & Gosbin Grocery on Spring Street. Later, he bought out his partner and became one of the first Super Valu stores, Seyforth Super Valu, on Spring Street, which he operated for 20 years. He then purchased Webb's Bowl-A-Drome property on Columbia Street and relocated Seyforth's Super Valu, which he owned and operated for 13 years, until and retiring in 1968.
He married Dorothy M. Cotter July 21, 1937, in Chippewa Falls. She preceded him in death on June 22, 1985. He then married Dolores Gettler Anderson May 17, 1986, at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Chippewa Falls.
Francis served on the First National Bank Board of Directors. He was also on the first Industrial Development Board, and a member of the Chamber of Commerce, having served on its Board of Directors. He was a member of Notre Dame Catholic Church, the Old Goats, Chippewa Falls Elks Lodge #1326, Moose Lodge, Fearsome Foursome Hunting and Fishing Crew, (Bill Casper, Dr. John Sazama, Gib Reiter and Francis Seyforth).
Survivors include his wife, Dolores; one son, Glenn (Aria) Seyforth of Chippewa Falls; one daughter, JoAnn (Gilbert) Nack of Menomonee Falls; four stepchildren; eight grandchildren, Tim Seyforth, Darrin Seyforth, Wade Seyforth, Ellen (Harry) Borchardt, Julie (Jeff) Katz, Gilbert (Dana) Nack, Thomas Nack, Michael Nack; four stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren, Andrew Borchardt and Aaron Katz.
A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 1, at Notre Dame Catholic Church, with the Rev. Albert Sonnberger officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery, Chippewa Falls.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel, Chippewa Falls, where there will be a 6:30 p.m. Christian Prayer Service. Friends may also call until time of services Saturday at the funeral chapel.
