Age 83, of Wilmington, DE passed away on February 1, 2008, at his home.
He served in the US Navy from 1941-1945 seeing action in the South Pacific fighting the Japanese. He was discharged honorably in San Diego, CA. Walter worked as a driver for Red Star Trailways, North Coast Greyhound, and Victor Lynn Lines, all in Maryland. In 1953 he relocated to Wilmington, DE and began work for Hercules Powder Company. In 1960, he began a public accounting office and also began an insurance agency under Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company. He managed this firm until his retirement in 2003. Walter was a Master Mason for 48 years. He was a member of Unity Lodge # 32 and served as Worshipful Master in 1968, and from 1988-1992. Walter was Past Grand Secretary of the Grand Lodge of Delaware from 1977-1981, Past Most Excellent High Priest of the Royal Arch Masons, a member of the Princes of Jerusalem, Nur Temple Shrine, Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Past Associate Guardian of Bethel # 4 I.O.J.D., and was on the Board of the Masonic Home of Delaware.
Walter is survived by his wife of 53 years, Naomi E. Lokey; son, Walter F. "Butch" Lokey II and his wife Terri of Rising Sun, MD; daughter, Stephanie E. Lokey of New Castle, DE; 3 additional sons, Michael, Donald, and Dennis Lokey all of Maryland; brother, Norwood Lokey of Maryland; sisters, Marian Richardson of Utah, and Thelma Osmond of Michigan, and several grandchildren including Peter, Matthew, and Phillip Lokey.
The family wishes to thank Vitas Hospice for their caring and compassionate care and support during Walter's last days.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, February 7, at 12:30 pm, at the MCCRERY MEMRORIAL CHAPEL, 3710 Kirkwood Highway at Duncan Road where friends may call after 11:30 am, and Masonic services will be at 12:15 pm. Interment will be in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear, DE.
