Matthew Ross Sutton died July 6, 2003. He was born December 27, 1960, in Chicago, Illinois. He was the son of Warren T. Sutton, M.D. and Jean Ann Sutton (nee Griffith). He was a happy, healthy baby at first, but at 15 months of age developed type one diabetes mellitus with which he struggled valiantly throughout his life. At the time he developed the diabetes, his older brother Stephen was 21 months old, and his mother was in the Wesley Memorial Hospital giving birth to his younger brother, Thomas.
In spite of the best possible care during his childhood and adolescence, he was plagued by episodes of high and low blood sugars with fairly frequent insulin reactions usually with convulsions. In spite of that, he continued growing and did fairly well for many years, but eventually developed early signs of complications involving his kidneys and eyes, later resulting in a kidney transplant and laser treatments to his retinas.
He progressed well in school and developed a love for sports like baseball and wrestling. When he was an adult, he enjoyed golf and watching hockey. Matt loved the western way of life, especially the care and raising of cattle. He graduated from Montana State University with a Bachelor's Degree, and after graduation, worked for Jack Simplot for several years. He developed, patented, and built a device for medicating cattle which was sold through the Simplot stores. In the more recent years, he worked as a buyer for Micron Electronics until the company merged with another company a few years ago.
Matt was a very likable person who was loyal and dependable in everything he did. He was fiercely independent however, which was a factor in the event that led to his death. Matt had been married and divorced on two occasions and had no children.
He is survived by his father, Dr. Warren T. Sutton, M.D. of Idaho Falls; his brothers, Stephen T. Sutton of Arlington Heights, Illinois, Dr. Thomas E. Sutton, M.D. of Gilbert, Arizona, and Dr. Mark A. Sutton, M.D. of Houston, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Jean Sutton and a niece, Alexandra Sutton of Arlington Heights, Illinois.
