Succeeding an illness of eight months Bernard Richter, a prominent retired farmer, died Sunday, July 7, 1918, at his home in Ashton. His demise was caused directly by chronic Bright's disease. The deceased was born July 11, 1855, in Germany, in 1868 he emigrated to this country with his parents and settled in Wisconsin, where he resided until 1901, when he moved to Osceola county, where he remained until about four years ago, when he retired from actual farm life and made his home in the town of Ashton. He was living here when his Master called him from his earthly home to the home of Eternity, on Sunday morning, July 7, 1918, at the advanced age of 62 years, 11 months and 26 days.
February 21, 1884, he was united in marriage to Miss Elizabeth Gacke. This union. was blessed with six children, four sons and two daughters; one son died in infancy, one daughter died about two years ago. Besides the deeply bereaved widow he leaves to mourn his loss three sons and one daughter, viz: Albert, Ida, Lewis and Frank; 14 grandchildren also are left.
Mr. Richter's acquaintance was wide in this county, where he for so many years made his home, and he was known far and wide as a man of absolute integrity, an excellent provider for his family, a loving husband and indulgent father and a friend who could ill be spared. The entire community was much grieved to learn of his demise, all realizing that a man of much worth to the community had been lost to us. Mr. Richter was a devout and faithful member of the Catholic church at this place.
