CEDAR FALLS
Robert Platt, 80, of Cedar Falls, died Wednesday, Dec. l, at Windhaven Assisted Living Center of the Western Home Communities.
He was born Nov. 23, 1930, in Cedar Falls, son of George and Lena Bulthuis Platt. He married Mary L. Renz Buchanan on March 10, 1962, in Dunkerton at First Baptist Church. She died Jan. 4, 1997.
Mr. Platt graduated from Orange Consolidated Schools in 1948. He farmed in Orange Township from 1959 to 1968, then near Jesup, retiring in 1990. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, and was a member of First Baptist Church, Waterloo, where he was an usher and on the deacon board. He also was a member of American Legion Post 636 of Dunkerton and Farm Bureau since 1956.
Survived by: four daughters, Bonnie (Calvin) Nesset of Davenport, Berniece (John) Hostetler of Webster City, Esther (Michael) Case of Iowa City and Martha (John Everman) Platt of Waterloo; a son, Mark (Teresa) Buchanan of Belle Vista, Calif.; 11 grandchildren, Lucas Powers, Aaron Buchanan, Jeremiah and Wade (Justine) Nesset, Melissa and Rachel Hostetler, Christopher (Tracy), Benjamin and Timothy Rusch, Benjamin Case and Samuel Platt; a great-granddaughter, Kylee Nesset; a brother, James (Phyllis) of Cedar Falls; and a sister-in -law, Virginia Platt of Cedar Falls.
Preceded in death by: his parents; two sisters, Mary Iseminger and Helen Cable; and a brother, Marshall.
Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church of Waterloo, preceded by burial at 9:30 a.m. in Fairview Cemetery, Dunkerton. Graveside military rites will be conducted by Dunkerton American Legion Post 636. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Locke Funeral Home, Waterloo.
