Succumbs on Way To Hospital at Iowa City on Saturday
The news that "Al" Richter died on his way to the University of Iowa hospital at Iowa City on Saturday was flashed around over the week end in the Rock Valley community. Mr. Richter, who had seen in very poor health for a year was being taken there but passed away enroute.
William Alphnso Richter, or "Al" as he was known to everyone, was a lifelong resident of the Rock Valley neighborhood. He was born near Rock Valley Jan. 9, 1884, the son of John and Mary Richter. He attended school, grew to manhood, and spent his entire life in this community.
His entire life was spent on the farm and later operated a tire and battery shop for several years. Disposing of this, he went into the trucking business n which he continued until a short time before his death.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic church all his life and for many years was a member of the church choir.
He leaves to mourn his passing two sisters, Julia Richter of Rock Valley and Mrs. O. F. Ogden of Lennox, S.D. and one brother Lawrence, of this city, besides several nieces and nephews. Two sisters and a brother preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at 9 a.m. at St. Mary's church with Father McGoey officiating at requiem mass. Burial was made in St. Mary's cemetery Rock Valley. Funeral arrangements were handled by Vander Ploeg's funeral home. Pall bearers were Martin Cullinan, William Rielly, Clare Barry, Emery Suter, Coy McKeegan and Joe Hevern.
Those from out of town who attended the services included Alfred Koltze of Sioux Falls, Mrs. Larry Ideker, Lester, Ia., Mr. and Mrs. H. Maarse, and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Harmerlinek & Bernice of Minnetoa, Minn., Mrs. C.F. Ogden and Lawrence and Clarence J. Ogden of Lennox, S.D., Mr. and Mrs. Ed Richter of Madison S.D., Henry Koltze of Marshall, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. Leo Fronteyn of Minneota, and Mrs. Arthur Thangke and Mrs.Margaret Baert of Marshall, Minn.
