Robert St. Elmo Leary, 94, of Bloomington, Minn., formerly of Jesup, died Thursday, June 10, in St Paul, Minn., of natural causes.
He was born October 4, 1909, in Jesup, son of Charles and Beulah Trumbauer Leary. He married Agnes Moe on April 8, 1932, in Rockford, Ill. She died in 2002.
Mr. Leary began farming near Dunkerton in 1933, before moving to Black Hawk-Buchanan County road near Jesup in 1934. He farmed near Jesup for 57 years, and he later farmed near Hazelton and fed beef cattle. He was awarded Buchanan County Cattlemen's Association Outstanding Cattleman Award in 1981. Robert retired from farming in 1991 moved to the Oelwein area and then to Bloomington, Minn. in 1993. He lived at The Gardens assisted living facility in Bloomington, Minn., until April 2004.
Survivors include two sons, Roger (Elaine) of Richfield, Minn., and Rolfe (Barbara) of Falcon Heights, Minn.; a daughter, Rhoda (Charles) Latting of South Pasadena, Calif.; eight grandchildren, Richard, Roger, Randy, Daniel and Eleanor Leary and Charles, John and Robert Latting; 12 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Gwendolyn Baldwin.
Preceded in death by: two brothers, Lloyd and Raymond; and a sister, Ramona Forney.
Services: Wednesday at First United Methodist Church, with burial in Cedar Crest Cemetery, both in Jesup. Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuessday at White Funeral Home, Jesup, and an hour before services at the church Wednesday.
