INDEPENDENCE

Mabel I. Leary, 83, of died Saturday, Oct. 14, at People's Memorial Hospital, Independence, after a brief illness; survivors include five daughters, Joan Oliphant of Vinton, Betty Decker and Janice Morris, both of Walker, Joyce Decker of Lago Vista, Texas, and Chris Johnson of Independence; 16 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; a brother, Walter Petersen of San Francisco; and two sisters, Karen Hansen of Walnut, Ill., and Dagmar Ballard of Dixon. Ill.; she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, four brothers and two sisters; services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at first Presbyterian Church, Independence, with 2 p.m. burial at Fairview Cemetery, Cedar Falls; friends may call after 2 p.m. today at White Funeral Home, Independence; a memorial fund has been established.
