Age 98. Passed away at Sarina's in Elkhorn, Wis. on Friday, September 10, 1993. He was born in Salem, Wis. September 4, 1895, to Henry and Johanna (Thielen) May. His early life was spent in Salem, Wis., Wheatland, Wis., New Munster, Wis. He was united in marriage to Cordella Ketterhagen in St. Mary's Church, Burlington, Wis. on February 10, 1926. After his marriage he lived in Spring Prairie Township, Wis., then moved to Burlington, Wis., after retirement in 1961. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I. He was a retired Farmer. He was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church, a Charter Member and last World War I member of Rice-Lemmerhirt-Smith American Legion Post #327 of Lyons, Wis. He is survived by his wife, three sons, Robert (Carole), Ralph (Dorothy), and Cletus (Marge), all of Burlington, Wis.; fourteen grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Alice Daniels New Munster, Wis.; brothers-in-law, Roland Ketterhagen Union Grove, Wis., Cy (Zita) Ketterhagen, Roman (Verena) Ketterhagen, and James (Bernice) Ketterhagen, all of Burlington. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant grandson, Daniel; two brothers, two brothers, Edward and Allie May; and a sister, Clara Robers. Funeral services will be held at St. Charles Catholic Church on Monday, September 13, 1993, at 7:30 p.m. with Rev. Michael Benham officiating. Interment will be at St. Charles Cemetery with full military rite. Friends and relatives may call from 4 until 7 p.m. at McCarthy-Koeing Funeral Home. Memorials to St. Charles School have been suggested.
