Shirley Ann Shauer, 77, of Beach Park, formerly Waukegan, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, April 1, 2016, at Rolling Hills Manor, in Zion, with one of her daughters by her side. She was born August 10, 1938, in Racine, WI. Shirley was a member of St. Dismas Parish, St. Dismas Women's Club, St. Therese Auxiliary, Catholic Nurses Association, and the YMCA. She was a registered nurse and retired from St. Therese Hospital (Vista) after 40 years of service. Her nursing legacy has inspired four of her grandchildren to pursue careers in the medical field. Shirley was attentive to all her patients but a sweet love story unfolded as one particular handsome young man caught her eye. He was cared for with great love and an abundance of attention by his future wife, Shirl. She had many dear friends and was loved by all who knew her. She loved to spend time with her siblings, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Shirley's perseverance through many medical trials is an inspiration and a testimony to her positive outlook on life. Her unconditional love was a direct reflection of a personal relationship with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Shirley is survived by her devoted husband, Dennis Shauer; children: Mark (Debra) Shauer, Therese (Chris) Bardy, Michael Shauer and Carla Mikels, Catherine (Mario) Martinez, Margaret (Brent) Knepper, and Erich (Margaret "Peggy") Shauer; eighteen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; siblings: Ruth Noll, Philip (Donna) Katterhagen, Rose Fettes, Arlene Fritchen, Mary (Myron) Bohn; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Roland and Clara Katterhagen; and daughter, Mary Clara Shauer. Funeral mass will be 10:00 AM Saturday, April 9, 2016, at St. Dismas Church 2600 Sunset Ave, Waukegan. Interment will be private at Ascension Cemetery in Libertyville. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday, April 8, 2016, at PETERSON & PATCH FUNERAL HOME 408 N. Sheridan Rd, Waukegan, and from 9:00 AM to time of mass on Saturday, April 9, 2016, at the church.
