William H. Richter, 77, Burlington. former president of Silver Lake village and former president of the Racine-Kenosha County Teachers College, Union Grove, died Thursday at Memorial Hospital in Burlington.
Mr. Richter, who resided at 300 McHenry St., was born Nov. 2, 1892, in the Town of Burlington, son of Mr. and Mrs. Theodore J. Richter. In his early years he resided in the town of Wheatland and attended Wheatland grade school and Burlington High School.
Mr. Richter was proprietor of the general store in Silver Lake for 42 years, retiring in 1962.
He was a charter member and past commander of Schultz-Hahn American Legion Post 293 in Silver Lake and former clerk of Riverview School District. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Burlington and was formerly affiliated with Holy Name Church in Wilmot as a member and trustee.
A veteran of World War I, he served overseas as a lieutenant in the Army.
On June 18, 1919, he married Chrystal Dixon at St. Alphonsus Church in New Munster, and following their marriage, they made their home in Silver Lake. In 1968, they moved to Burlington. The Richters celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1969.
Mr. Richter is survived by his wife and by five sons, Robert T. of Burlington; Dr. Lyle F. of Milwaukee; Gerald J. Richard B. of Mequon, and William H. Jr. of Prospect Heights, Ill.; three daughters, Mrs. L. E. (Marie) Fait, Burlington; Mrs. Theodore (Ruth) Matt, Oconomowoc, and Sister Joanne, BVM, Milwaukee.
He is also survived by six sisters, Mrs. Lora Daniels, Brighton; Mrs. Leo (Florence) Robers, Mrs. Sylvester (Leona) Epping and Mrs. Clarence (Celeste) Fonk, all of Kenosha, Mrs. R. Stanley (Irene) Kelly, and Mrs. Alice Robers, both of Burlington; two brothers, Frank Richter, Brighton, and Elmer Richter, Burlington, and by 35 grandchildren.
One brother, Adolph, preceded him in death.
RICHTER-Funeral services for the late William H. Richter, of Burlington, Wis., will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, from St. Mary's Catholic Church, Burlington. Interment St. Charles Cemetery, Burlington. Friends may call at the McCarthy-Rueter Funeral Home, Milwaukee Ave., Burlington, after 4 p.m. Vigil service at 8:00 p.m. Friday (tonight). Memorials may awarded to the Burlington memorial Hospital.
