Zita M. Ketterhagen, 89, passed away Friday, September 15, 2006, at Mount Carmel Medical and Rehabilitation Center in Burlington.
She was born, September 15, 1917, in New Munster, to Joseph and Rosa (nee: Vos) Kerkman. Zita spent her early life in New Munster and had been a resident of the Burlington area for 58 years. On September 18, 1948, at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in New Munster, she was united in marriage to Daniel P. Miles. He preceded her in death in 1973. Then on August 20, 1976, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Burlington, she was united in marriage to Cyril Ketterhagen.
Zita attended St. Alphonsus Grade School. She was employed at Burlington Mills for many years before marriage. Zita worked at Southern Wisconsin Center in Union Grove for 13 years as a Seamstress. She was a Homemaker and a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Burlington. She also volunteered at Memorial Hospital of Burlington and was a member of the Holy Dusters at the church. She enjoyed traveling and loved to sew and spend time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband, Cyril Ketterhagen of Burlington; daughter, Diane (Brian) Mahoney of Sharon; son, Daniel J. (Leslie) Miles of Rochester; step-daughter, Joan (Norm) Muehleck of Oconomowoc; and step-sons, Joe (Gail) Ketterhagen of Burlington and Gene (Darla) Ketterhagen of De Pere. She is further survived by 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Melania Schulz of Kenosha; seven nieces; and three nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Daniel P. Miles; brother, Clemens Kerkman; and by sisters, Helen Koenen and Cecelia Kerkman.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Burlington on Tuesday, September 19, 2006, at 7:30 p.m. with Rev. Joseph Debski officiating. Burial will take place at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery on Wednesday at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home on Tuesday from 4 until 7 p.m. Memorials to St. Mary's Grade School have been suggested.
