Funeral rites for William F. Balzer, former resident of Rock Valley were held at St. Anthony, Iowa, on Monday. Requiem Mass was held at the Sacred Heart Catholic church there at 9:30 a.m. Mr. Balzer died at the home of his sister, Mrs. Albert Dunn, on March 1.
William F. Balzer was born on August 17, 1880 at Guttenburg, Iowa. He came to Rock Valley in 1901 and worked in the Schemmer Hardware store for 41 years. He was well known here for his musical ability, being an active member of the band for many years.
He married Elenora Plate in 1907 and to this union were born three daughters and one son. He is survived by his widow, his children and ten grandchildren.
Those attending the funeral services from Rock Valley included Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Klein, Henry Kaskie, and Mrs. Kate Schemmer. Also attending were Mr. and Mrs. John Haas of Iowa Falls.
Interment was to be made at the Holy Cross cemetery at San Diego, Calif.
