Scott Albert Helsing, 15, of LaBelle, near Rigby, died July 24, 1995, at Eastern Idaho Regonal Medical Center in Idaho Falls of a sudden illness.
He was born Aug. 1, 1979, at Rexburg, to LaVern Albert and Bonnie Blue Bazil Helsing. He attended schools in Rigby and would have started his junior year at Rigby High School this fall. He was active in Future Farmers of America and would have served as vice president for the coming school year. He also enjoyed 4-H Club. His father preceded him in death Nov. 2, 1992.
An active member of the LDS Church, he was serving as a counselor in the Teachers quorum presidency. Scouting was among the activities he enjoyed, and he held the rank of Life Scout. He also enjoyed horses, cattle, swimming in the canal, and playing ball. He was a member of the LaBelle 2nd Ward softball team. A niece and a nephew were special members in his family.
Survivors include his mother of LaBelle; three sisters and a brother, Mrs. Richard (Becky) Chadwick of Lewiston, Utah, Brenda Helsing, who is serving a mission for the LDS Church in Baton Rouge, La., Holly Helsing of LaBelle, and Lance Helsing of Idaho Falls; and his grandparents, Mrs. Martha Helsing of Rigby, and Mrs. Dale (Melba) Wilford of LaBelle. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers.
Funeral services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at the LaBelle LDS 2nd Ward with Bishop Gary Peterson officiating. The family will visit with friends at the church Thursday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Burial will be in Rigby Pioneer Cemetery under the direction of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.
