A funeral for Howard L. Madison, 74, of Sandia Street, will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Denton-Funchess Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Andy Harris Central Christian Church officiating Madison and assisted by Pastor Daniel Mullins of Fox and Walnut Church of God. Interment will be at 4 p.m. CST at Post Cemetery, Post, Texas.
Mr. Madison died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2002, at Carlsbad Medical Center.
Denton-Funchess Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Howard L. Madison was born Thursday, May 5, 1927, to Peter R. Madison and Olga C. Pederson Madison in Dakota City, Neb., where he grew up on the family farm. He was the seventh of nine children.
He married Mary Lou Ernst on June 10, 1951, in South Sioux City, Neb. There were two children born to this marriage. They farmed in Nebraska until 1958 when he moved his family to Big Piney, Wyo., where he worked for Pacific Northwest Pipeline Company for five years.
In 1961, he moved to El Paso, Texas, to work for El Paso Natural Gas Company. In 1963, he joined
Transwestern Pipeline Company.
He married Evelyn Eugene Edwards Kent on Sept. 2, 1967, in El Paso. He gained three sons in this marriage, and together he and Evelyn became the parents of an infant daughter.
His job brought the family to Carlsbad in 1973. In 1984, he retired from his company and continued to reside in Carlsbad until his death.
Mr. Madison was a member of Central Christian Church. He was a 32nd Degree Mason with Valley of Sioux City, Orient of Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his father in 1955; his first wife, Mary Lou Madison, in 1961; his mother in 1977; two brothers; and a sister.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Madison, of Carlsbad; sons, Thomas Lee Madison and Clint Kent of Carlsbad, and J.H. Kent and James Kent of Iraan, Texas; daughters, Marilyn Madison Bond Kinkade of Abilenen, Texas, and Dase Lea Madison Garcia of Silver City; brothers, Bill Madison of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Russell Madison of Lexington, Ky.; sisters, Virginia Hogeboom of Sioux City, Iowa, Fern Sund of South Sioux City, Neb., and Carol Sherwood of Virginia; 15 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a host of in-laws, nephews and nieces; and his best friend, Millie.
Pallbearers will be grandsons and granddaughters.
