Lavern “Bernie” Peterson, 70 of Merrillan died early morning August 29, 2018, at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire, WI. He was born on December 18, 1947 in Chippewa Falls, and he grew up in Cadott, WI.

Lavern had a very large family, where he was the youngest of 14 children. He moved from Cadott to Merrillan, WI, with his parents and graduated from Alma Center High School in 1966. Lavern worked at the iron mines before starting his passion of farming, where he and his wife Sherry farmed for 36 years, retiring in 2014.

Lavern is survived by his three children: Brent (Julianne) Peterson, Shane (Jessica) Peterson and Jackie (Scott) Huber; seven grandchildren : Hannah, Nickolas, Ryan, Nissa, Sierra, Kaitlyn, and Cassidy; 3 brothers: Roger (Bertha), Lenny, and Jim (Donna) . He is also survived by many sisters and brother-in-law’s and many nieces and nephews and dear and wonderful friends.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife Sherry, his parents Willard and Alvina; 7 brothers and 3 sisters, also.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, September 5, 2018, at Grace Lutheran Church (200 W Main Street, Alma Center) with Pastor David Shudy officiating. Burial will follow at East Lawn Cemetery in Alma Center with military honors provided by VFW Post 8494 of Alma Center.

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, September 4, 2018, at Jensen- Modjeski Funeral Home (128 S. Hoffman Street, Hixton). There will be NO VISITITATION prior to services Wednesday at the church.
