James A. "Nimmy" Zimmerman, 63, of Cadott, formerly of Waupun, died Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at Luther Mayo of Eau Claire.
Jim was born July 7, 1948, son Of Arthur G. and Mildred Franklin Zimmerman. Jim attended Waupun schools. graduating from Waupun High School in 1966. Following high school, Jim was employed by Waupun Foundry until 1968, at which time he volunteered for the draft and served his country for two years with the U.S. Army. From 1970 until 1972, Jim was employed by Line Clearance Co. On May 13, 1972, he married Margaret "Marge" Gawel. Following their marriage, the couple resided in Waupun all their married lives. Marge passed away October 1, 2004. From 1972 until 1981, Jim was employed by Michael's Pipeline and from April of 1981 through January of 2007 was employed by the Wisconsin Department of Corrections, retiring in 2007. In 2009, Jim moved to Cadott with his lovely friend, Pamela Peterson, whom he married November 23, 2011. Jim worked for his brother-in-law, Lloyd Peterson, of Peterson Affordable Construction of Cadott. Jim was avid musky fisherman who made baits, and an avid deer hunter. He enjoyed camping, playing blackjack, and spending time with family and friends.
Jim is survived by his wife, Pamela Peterson-Zimmerman of Cadott; two sons, Brian A. Zimmerman of Waupun, and Timothy J. Zimmerman of La Crosse; a daughter, Kari A. Zimmerman of Madison; a stepson, Daniel (Kim) Gindt of Appleton; three step-grandchildren, Kylie, Paige, and Autumn Girdt; and a sister, Donna (Butch) Chase of Juneau.
Jim was preceded in death by his mother in 1972; his brother, Brian in 1972; his father in 1989; his first wife, Margaret in 2004; and his father-in-law, Henry Gawel in 2006.
Funeral services were held Tuesday. January 31, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Waupun with Fr. Michael Wild officiating. Burial followed at Highland Memory Gardens in the town of Trenton. Friends and relatives called on the family on Monday from 4-7 p.m. at Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home in Waupun and on Tuesday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.
American Legion post 210 of Waupun provided military honors.
