Elizabeth "Betty" Jean Riley, 75, of Pleasant Prairie, passed away on Friday, June 16, 2006, at her residence after a brief illness.
Born on July 25, 1930, in Kenosha, she was the daughter of the late Clarence P. and Celeste C. (Richter) Fonk. She attended St. Mary's Grade School in Kenosha, St. Catherine's High School in Racine and graduated from Cardinal Stritch College in Milwaukee in 1952 with a Medical Technology Degree.
On July 3, 1954, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, she married Charles N. "Chuck" Riley. He preceded her in death on January 4, 2000.
She was instrumental in fund raising for the Original Hospice Alliance (Kenosha Community Homemaker Home Health Aid Service Inc.), First Female President of St. Mary's Parish Council, member of St. Mary's Parish Education Committee, member of the Kenosha Symphony League, Junior Women's League, Wisconsin Children's Service Society, St. Joseph High School Board of Trustees, and a reading tutor for the Kenosha Literacy Council.
On Betty's personal hobbies, she enjoyed skiing, tennis, bridge club, was an avid reader and world traveler and loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. Her favorite place in the world was her home in northern Wisconsin.
She is survived by her four sons, Mark C. (Erin) of Pleasant Prairie, Thomas P. (Marnie) of Somers, David R. (Angie) of Kenosha, James G. (Tari) of Fairmont, Minn.; four daughters, Patricia A. (Thomas) Miller of Dousman, Wisc., Eileen M. (Walter) Levonowich of Brookfield, Wisc., Susan M. (James) Easton of Eden Prairie, Minn., Barbara J. (James) Celano (III) of Kansasville, Wisc.; five sisters, Margaret Seitz of Racine, Kathleen (Robert) Frederick of Redding, Calif., Carolyn (Robert) Abrahamson of Kenosha, Judy (Tom) Kauzrich of Kenosha, Joyce (Martin) Walsh of St. Charles, Montana; brother Ronald (Fyrn) Fonk of Eager, Ariz.; brother-in-law, James Dorau of Kenosha; and 21 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Janice Dorau.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, June 20, from Proko Funeral Home at 9:30 a.m. Mass to be celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow at St. James Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday evening from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Hospice Alliance or St. Mary's Catholic Church and School would be appreciated by the family.
