Charles Michael Seitz passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 27, 2004, at his home with his family at his side, after a year-long battle with colon cancer.
On March 21, 1930, Charles was born to Al and Cecelia (nee: Kupper) Seitz. On May 29, 1954, he was united in marriage to Margaret Fonk, who survives him.
He attended St. Joseph Elementary School, St. Catherine's and St. Francis High Schools, Dominican College, and the University of Minnesota, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Architecture in 1957.
Chuck served in the United States Army and was stationed with the 58th Field Artillery. He became a Partner in his father's architectural firm, Al J. Seitz Associates, retiring in 1995. His spirit lives on in the designs of many residences, schools, churches, and other buildings in the Racine area. Some of his favorites were St. Mary's Medical Center Atrium, Racine Safety Building, and projects in all of his children's houses.
Chuck had a great love of music and the outdoors. His cottage on Beaufort Lake in the Michigan Upper Penisula was a family building project and a great source of joy and comfort. In this last year during his illness, he helped to build a hunting cabin near Bayfield with his sons and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret; his seven children, Catherine Seitz of Brookfield, Carol (Jerry) Karl of Tornahawk, Gregory Seitz of Union Grove, Jeffrey (Kate) Seitz, Daniel Seitz, Christine (Bill) Zeisler, Laurie (Dejan) Nikolic, all of Racine; his 13 grandchildren, Josh Karl, Jennie (Mike) Lee, Dan and Gina Karl, Sarah and Maggie Seitz, Audrey Seitz, Christy Seitz, Natalee and Nicole Zeisler, Sofia, Katarina, and Isabella Nikolic; five great-grandchildren, Jacob, Jared, and Jill Karl, Megan and Allison Lee; brothers, Robert Seitz, Gerald (Barbara) Seitz, Tom (Sandy) Seitz; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Betty Riley, Ronald (Fyrn) Fonk, Kathleen (Robert) Frederick, Janice (James) Dorau, Carolyn (Robert) Abrahamson, Judy (Tom) Kauzrich, Joyce (Martin) Walsh; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends. In addition to his parents, Chuck was also preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Charles Riley; his sisters-in-law, Lorraine Seitz and Joanne Fonk; and a nephew, Ronald Fonk.
