Mary M. Luke, age 81, of Town of Wheatland, died Nov. 26, 2000 at Mt. Carmel Medical & Rehab Center in Burlington. She was born on July 31, 1919 in Milwaukee, WI to Charles and Myrtle (NEE: Finan) McManus. She spent her early life in Town of Dover, where she was a descendent of pioneer families of Racine County. On July 5, 1941 at Holy Name Church in Wilmot, she was united in marriage to Richard F. Luke. They resided in Wheatland following marriage.
Mary attended St. Mary's Academy in Milwaukee and Racine-Kenosha Normal School in Union Grove. After graduation, she was a school teacher at one room schools at Wheatland and Thomas Jefferson School in Paris, as well as substitute teaching. She also worked at BB&W Telephone Co. as a switchboard operator. She was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in New Munster, where she was active with Christian Mothers, Catholic Order Of Foresters,
and the Home Makers of Wheatland. Mary is survived by her husband, Richard of Wheatland, 1 daughter, Marietta (Jerry) Vogt of Burlington and 3 sons, Gerald Luke of Wheatland, Allen Luke of Orlando, Florida, and John Luke of Somers, WI; 4 grandchildren, Jennifer & Emily Luke Of Mountainside, New Jersey and Amy and Kim Vogt of Burlington, also 1 great-granddaughter, Isabelle Luke of Mountainside, New Jersey, 1 brother-in-law, Don (June) Luke of Park falls, WI., and many other nieces, nephews, and relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents, 1 son, Richard Jr. and 1 daughter, Lorena.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday. Nov. 29, 2000 at 7:00 PM at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in New Munster with Rev. Tom Biersack officiating. Burial will be at St. Alphonsus Cemetery on Thurs. Nov. 30 at 10:00 AM. Friends may call on Wednesday evening from 3:00 to 6:15 PM at Schutte-Daniels Funeral Home in Burlington.
