RACINE
Ms. Rita A. (nee: Puffer) Gutzman, 72, passed away at St. Mary's Medical Center on Friday afternoon, January 12, 2001.
She was born in Racine on November 19, 1928, she was the daughter of George and Norine (nee: Coutts) Puffer. On October 26, 1949, in St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church. she was united in the Holy Sacrament of Marriage to Robert W Gutzman, Sr.
She attended St. Patrick's Catholic School and St. Catherine's Catholic School. She was a member of St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church, the Women of the Moose Chapter 631, and was active in the Moose Couples Bowling League. A Homemaker, she enjoyed cross-stitching, bowling, and especially spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and her pet and companion, Schnapps, a Cockapoo. Rita was a very loving mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Her survivors include four daughters, Barbara A. (Jack) Eyman, Patty A. Bequeaith, Lorrame A. (Daniel) Owens, and Rita A. (Steven) Nelson, all of Racine; a son, Robert W. (Cheri) Gutzman, Jr.; 10 grandchildren, Gary (Fiance, Jeanie), Cori, Heidi, Katie, Courtney, Ryan, Nicole, Daniel, Stevie Anne, and Matthew; great-grandchildren, Tina and Mariah; and a sister Mary Jane (Robert) Velzka of Canton, Ohio. She is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Lorriane C. Gutzman and Nancy Puffer; many nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends; and her dog, Schnapps.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert Sr. on June 11, 1984; and two brothers, George Puffer and Donald Coutts.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Rita A. Gutzman will be celebrated at St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church on Tuesday, January 16, 2001, at 11:30 a.m. The Rite of Committal and interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery on Highway 32. Friends may call at Strouf-Kniewel Funeral Home on Monday evening, January 15, 2001, from 6 until 8 p.m. and at the funeral home on Tuesday from 10:30 a.m. until time of procession to the church. Contributions in Rita's memory may be made to Ridgewood Care Center.
