Robert J. Southey, 86, away at Mount Carmel Medical Rehabilitation Center Thursday, March 11, 1999.
A lifetime resident, he was born in Burlington on November 16, 1912, to Robert L. and Alma (nee: Holtz) Southey.
He received his education at Burlington grade schools, Burlington High School, and Platteville School of Mining. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He was a Salesman at Holton Band Instrument Company in Elkhorn and also with Ludwig Industries in Chicago, Ill. He owned and operated Southey's Music Store in Burlington. He was a member and past President of Kiwanis in Burlington, Chairman of Airport Commission in Burlington, and was an active member of E.A.A. He was a collector of old cars, owned his own airplanes, and flew for business and recreation for many years, until age 78.
Surviving are one step-sister, Marian Julian of Lake Geneva; one brother, Francis (Ruth) Southey of Burlington; two nieces, Kay (Allen) Cyskiewicz of Waukesha and Nanette Southey of Waterford; one great-niece, Kelly Cyskiewicz; two great-nephews, David (Jennifer) Cyskiewicz and Scott Cyskiewicz; great-great-nephew, Eric David Cyskiewicz; and his canine companion, Muffin II. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one nephew, William Ronald Southey.
Funeral services will be held at St. Charles Catholic Church in Burlington on Monday, March 15, 1999, at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Michael Benham officiating. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Monday from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Memorials suggested to St. Charles Catholic Church in Burlington.
